A verb is in active voice when the subject does something (is the doer or the action).
Ex: The cat eats a mouse.
=> Active
2/ The Passive voice:
a verb is in passive voice when the subject or a sentence is the receiver or sufferer of the action.
Ex:
_ A mouse is eaten by the cat
--> is suffered from.
_ A letter is written by me
--> is suffered from.
The 9 following tenses can be changed to passive:
1/ Simple present:
S + am/is/are + Past Participle + (by + agent)
Ex: This class is taught by Mr.X.
2/ Simple Past:S+ was/were + Past Participle + (by + agent)
3/Simple future:
S + Shall/will + be + Past Participle + (by + agent)
Ex: This class will be taught by Mr.X..
4/ Present perfect:S + has/have + been + Past Participle + (by + agent)
Ex: This class has been taught by Mr.X..
5/ Past perfect:S+ had + been + Past Participle + (by + agent)
Ex: This class had been taught by Mr.X
6/ Future perfect:S+ shall/will + have been + Past Part. + (by + agent)
Ex: This class will have been taught by Mr.X..
7/ Present Progressive:S+ am/is/are + being + Past Part. + (by + agent)
Ex: This class is being taught by Mr.X..
8/ Past Progressive:S + was/were + being + Past Part. ( by + agent)
Ex: This class was being taught by Mr.X..
9/ Future Progressive:S + shall/will + be being + Past Part. ( by + agent)
Ex: This class will be being taught by Mr.X...
